Bar, With the large bank stocks, that's one sector where I never shared Buffett's enthusiasm. Other finance related areas like financial services, insurance, and credit cards have a lot of merit, but the JP Morgans and Wells Fargos of the world I usually avoid..

One major aspect in the big bank's favor though is that they get basically free money from the Fed as part of their business model. These big Fed member banks are in fact the 'owners' of the Fed (the Fed is a privately owned corporation). The big banks are also quickly bailed out when necessary, so those 'big picture' aspects may be part of the attraction.
