I remember when all the fancy private girls schools taught riding. No longer. Very dangerous activity.

For heaven's sake. It's not all THAT dangerous. As they say, not really dangerous at all for people who aren't doing it at a very high level. And I don't think those schools taught riding. Their girls who came to them had been doing it for years.

Once upon a time it wasn't all that expensive to take your horse with you to college, as Jackie Bouvier did. Nowadays, stabling in the suburbs would no doubt be outrageously expensive. By the '60s, nobody was doing it anymore. But it was because of cost and inconvenience, not danger. I'll also point out that horses are used in therapy for disabled people.

Do I correctly take it that you've never been riding?
