Apple headset is a good guess for a second Apple Liquidmetal device (after rugged Watch 8). A third candidate would be the 2nd generation headset which may be more like glasses. The 2023 1st gen headset is predicted to cost $3000 and be intended for developers and early adopters. It will be a low volume high margin cutting edge product that is perfect for the ramp of LM products. If the first gen headset doesn’t have LM, the second generation remains a great candidate for the same.

Why Liquidmetal for the headset?

For a device worn on the face, lighter is profoundly better. Lighter is not just more comfortable, but more functional, as a heavy device on the face tends to sag and not fit correctly, or require an elaborate system of very tight straps on the head to hold the bulky headset still. Lighter solves all of this. A report I read last year listed the weights of current headsets on the market and Apple’s target. Apple was supposedly shooting for something in the realm of 25-50% lighter than rivals.

"There’s a clear consensus that the first Apple headset will launch early in 2023. This is expected to be both bulky and expensive, with a price as high as $3,000. This model is thought to be primarily geared to developers. A lighter, more compact, and more affordable 2nd-gen model is already in development. Kuo recently suggested this wouldn’t launch until 2025, but The Elec says that its supply chain sources indicate that Apple is currently aiming to have this model on sale sometime in 2024."
