why wait until Thursday

Sometimes, public announcements of this nature are teased in advance of certain contingent processes (we know a deal (sales/acquisition/etc.) is about to close, so we'll state that an announcement is forthcoming, but wait to actually make the announcement until it is finalized).

Also bear in mind that Q2 ends on Thursday; there may be components that they want to disclose, but which need to be tied off (think, an preliminary announcement of sales figures, etc.)

Not saying that any of this is the case here, but rather illustrative of how timelines are sometimes outside the control of the company.
