One of the drugs they tried for my mom’s cancer got approved and at that point she suddenly faced paying over $30,000 per month (30 little pills, one per day) because it changed from experimental trial access (free) to approved but not on her drug insurance formulary (because there’s a lag) and therefore not covered at all.

So that would have been over $360k per year for the pills, and it had debilitating side effects.
