I purtymuch don't care where the Russia-Ukraine border getts redrawn. It matters very little to my life or the lives of my fambly and frenns. I really do nott give a rip if Ukraine ceases to exist as an independent nation or knott.

I do care that the Special Military Operation and its counteractions by Ukraine (aka 'war/civil war') is killing, injuring, and maiming a helluva lott of peeples and the fight is over where a silly boundary line is gonna be drawn. To me, this situation does nott warrant the human, economic, and physical plant costs that are imposed by prolonging what is a futile quest to retain all of the former Ukraine as Ukraine within the former borders.

Similarly, butt less so, I do nott approve of the Palestinian terror organizations. Like Ukraine, there never was a Palestine state - only an ad hoc area under British dominion called the British Palestine Protectorate prior to WW2. Historically, the area we call Ukraine has been part of larger governments - Russia, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, USSR, etc. nott a separate nation-state.

While I do nott approve of Russia's Special Military Action/invasion, I disapprove even more - much, much more - of the immense human and economic losses that accrue the longer this shitshow goes on. All over a freaking border and which flag will fly over certain regions!!!

And we (the West) is enabling this ongoing murderfest by using this (and the Ukrainians) as a proxy war against Russia. An analogy would be some country providing military equipment and economic aid to Nazi Germany in 1944 when it was clear that Germany would lose the war - such aid would only prolong the suffering, destruction, and deaths of the war. The best route would be for Germany to collapse at the earliest date and end the war. The same could have been said for South Vietnam after 1967 when it was clear that South Vietnam was going to ultimately lose that war. Similarly, Ukraine will nott succeed in regaining the Donbas and is fated ultimately to lose more territory (and lives and physical infrastructure) the longer this war goes on.

Like Vietnam, this is really a war which is none of our business and which we ought to stay ~OUTT of. I think we ought to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, butt perhaps much less or no military aid that simply prolongs the suffering for no meaningful effect other than to make things worse for everybody - everyone in the world is suffering the fall~OUTT from this proxy war.

It needs to end. And that means cutting a realistic settlement of the new border and as part of that settlement allowing the remaining Ukraine to join NATO and the EU and perhaps also for UN peacekeeping troops as a tripwire to monitor the new border. Or at least an armistice along current lines as in the Koreas. AND the West ends its war sanctions against Russia, which are hurting us and the rest of the world much more than it is bothering Russia and the Russians.

Where the new borders are drawn I simply do nott care.

I will add that Russia is nott the USSR. One can leave Russia for another country anytime, unlike the USSR where one had to defect and often leave fambly behind if one did defect to the West (or any country). Unlike the USSR, Russia is nott hellbent on international revolution, hegemony, and infliction of a toXXXic ideology worldwide.

There is no Berlin Wall keeping Russians inside Russia. If the people who were living in the Donbas do not want to be Russians, they can migrate elsewhere. Like my maternal-side great-grandparents from what is now Belarus did when they left because they did nott want to serve in the Tsar's army when what is now called Belarus was then part of Russia (and before that, part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth). I do nott assert that Belarus is a historical independent state. Like Ukraine, Byelorussia was never an independent nation-state. It was always either part of Russia or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (or run by the Tatars/Mongols). Just like the region called Ukraine.
