"Pointless"? Maybe for trading purposes.

But the idea of filing an 8-K isn't concerned with traders. Its concern is for shareholders to let them know of a material event so that they're protected from traders that may have gained knowledge of the material event.

You can lead a horse to water. But you can't make him get down on one knee and do an Al Jolson impression!
