All's I know is it paid off for me since I worked for 4 and 1/2 years beyond my retirement age.
Then when I retired and applied for SS I could start collecting on my retirement date or back date collecting to the 1st of the year. By back dating I picked up a one time payment of $20K and lost $15 a month going forward. You can do the math. The SS agent said I can't advise you what to do but these are your options.
One final benefit is by doing what I did my wife doesn't have to start collecting SS for several years once she retires next year.
People really need to think before they think about retiring.
