You are conflating passing at wafer sort with passing device functionality to spec at final test. They are two entirely different tests. Wafer sort simply weeds out die that are crap, saving the manufacturer the cost of packaging and testing the device. A die that passes sort could fail at final test and does.

Again, an example of incomplete information provided by the company being blown out of proportion by fans who lack the experience to parse what the company says accurately. The company depends on this and does nothing to correct the misconception.
