More likely they reacted to the comments about working daily with foundries, knowing the technology faces major (perhaps insurmountable) hurdles turning their lab work into repeatable, well yielding and high volume production in a semiconductor fabrication facility.

In simpler terms, they wanted to address the hype which they knew fell far from reality.
