Until last year before ASM shares of Lightwave were traded by wholesaler market makers using OTC ( exchange facilities)!
and ownership was 100% retail, management and LPC. Since September 2021 on Nasdaq a gradual increase of institutional buying has occurred increasingly off exchange trading up to 45% daily ( a widely utilized phenomenon by institutions whereby SEC and Nasdaq pricing apply)! Institutions have accumulated 18 million shares. The overall float has only increased a few million since last year due to the LPC arrangement. So where did these institutional shares came from? Two sources :some retail selling, the majority came from shorting , now also at18 million. You could build a case that the institutions have backed up the shorts with borrowed shares. My hunch is that a big part of the 18 million shares short are naked (recycled). That’s my opinion. The longs are increasingly tight holding given where Lightwave is in its commercialization effort. The institutional will call back their shares when news hits. Just wonder how many fail to deliver trades will transpire.
