Diver, I don't know that the FlaskWorks unit makes more vaccine from the same amount of lysate, but if it does, great. I believe the economy it brings in is by not requiring a clean room to operate, taking up far less space, and requiring far less attention from the people operating it. As I understand it, only a few hours of time are needed, if that, for each batch. I believe the time for each batch is roughly the same as when using a clean room, but the cost of operating and manning clean rooms is far greater.

I hope that in the ASCO Expert Theater presentation we get an update on the status of the FlaskWorks unit. While it would be wonderful to find it's already approved I'd be satisfied to find they believe it will happen by later this year. I would question whether the FDA would approve the vaccine without it, but the U.K. could approve as they already have dedicated clean room capacity at Sawston. Long term the FlaskWorks unit is still the answer to volume production.
