Ion Exchange
IX columns are packed beds of resin that remove specific constituents. There may be cation, anion and ion specific resins. As the water is run through the resin, the target constituent is retained on the resin until it reaches its capacity to capture the constituent. Once the column has captured its full capacity, it must be stripped and regenerated. Usually an acid wash strips the column and a caustic wash regenerates.

IX reduces the constituent concentrations to the ppb (parts per billion) level. IX water is the high volume high purity final wash required to bring product to spec. IX purifies the lithium solution reducing all other constituents (except sodium and potassium) to the ppb level.
