Neither of you know the process used for ECA and Hybrid ECA development, validation or sensitivity analysis because it is new ground. So while you pretend that you do, I will caution others not to take your views as fact.

These comparisons of the populations of interest before and after analytical adjustments to account for bias and confounding are ideally conducted before the analysis of any outcome data.

Sounds to me like database is locked before the above suggested procedures are done. Assembling the database and building the ECA/Hybrid ECA from it are two different things.
