Don't remember who posted this link, but I shared it with a HS classmate and below is his interesting reply.

There is another part of this. Someone has to design the chip.

My son works for a company that is strange. They sell to customers who tell them what they want a chip to do.

Some engineers then put that information in a format for the designers. My son and his team are the designers for the chip

This can take months to a year. The design is sent to Tywan, where 100 chips are made. My son and his team test the chips and if all is correct, they send them to the customer for testing.

So far, they have made them for washing machines, autos, US fighter jet controls, and the control center for the Bowing 787. (the large plane), and many many other applications.
