Pump Your Own Gas? No Thanks, Say New Jerseyans March 31, 2022
New Jersey is the only state in the country that requires attendants to pump gas for all customers, a law that's been in place for 75 years and a majority of residents have told pollsters they support. The idiosyncrasy is often worn as a badge of honor on T-shirts and bumper stickers, that proudly proclaim "Jersey Girls Don't Pump Gas" .
On Wednesday, the average price of gas in New Jersey was $4.20, three cents lower than the national average and roughly 14 cents lower than in New York, according to the American Automotive Association.
