It is more extraordinary since Merck supposedly sent Dr. Duffy effectively as an agent to kick the tires at NWBO

Duffy was a mid level technical employee at Merck. There were hundreds with similar jobs.

He jumped ship to NWBO for a nice job title and whatever personal reasons. He almost certainly did facilitate getting the UCLA combo trial with Keytruda up and running. He might well have been trying to get a Direct trial started by somebody.

After a bit he had regrets and left NWBO to go back to MRCK. Not that uncommon.

This fairy tale that he was sent to NBWO on a secret mission is just that.
