FYI: I have been "statinated" as high as 80 mg statin (Lipitor I think at the time)w/o problems. When I started V in mid 2014 I was on 40 mg Lipitor then to 20 mg Lipitor generic and now on 10 mg Crestor generic. In all cases the medication is/was well tolerated. In all cases my total Cholesterol was less than 200 but has stabilized at 150-180. I started on Mevacor when it first came out when my total C was 325-350. Runs in the family, Father had triple bypass in '74 at Cleveland Clinic.
