I've noticed that MMs use it as a gravitation point around which they'll trade it on the same day, or on the next day, and they adjust their end-of-day spread around the closing VWAP.
Others may find it useful in other ways I may not have thought of.
I use it to place my limit orders in a reasonable range for the next day, because it can be very different than the regular closing price sometimes.
