The US invaded North Africa in Nov, 1942. In the Battle of North Africa, The US and UK captured over 200,000 members of the Afrika Korps.
Zukov captured a similar number of Germans, around Stalingrad.. The Battle of Liningrad didn't end until January, 1944.
The US invaded Sicily in July. 1943 and landed in Italy in August, 1943.
The US Air Force began Bombing Nazis, in January,1942, with the raid on the Ploesti oil fields, in Rumania. You might want to check your map. Rumania bordered the USSR. That part of the War damned sure wasn't "nearly over!!
The US and the UK lost 12,000 bombers and thousands of airmen, over Europe, starting with that raid in January, 1942
The war in Europe was NOT almost over when the US joined in.
