Attached is a chart, (from John Mauldin), that makes a point I've been making for 20 years. Exceptionally high energy prices trigger recessions. In his article this weekend he makes some excellent observations. The most important is that the West has decided to embargo Russian energy products. Not said, but implied, is that this won't end until Putin or a Putin like character is no longer running the country. That will lead to a recession with inflation..a 70s redo.

It may not happen that way if Putin negotiates his way out of this war quickly but it looks to me like energy could be a drag on the economy for at least a couple of years if this war and embargo does not end soon.
