Sure, and I do not doubt there are other good reasons for the undermining of the advance of many stocks, but the reality is, absent crystalizing events that really illustrate well the increased value of firms, even with much larger institutional ownership from nothing, I have seen companies decline. It's frustrating, but real. There can be these mechanical explanations, but it lasts beyond the initial period in many cases, absent a critical, crystalizing event that sets a very high market cap by definition, such as a partnership or, and this is obvious, a buyout. And with a buyout or partnership, they probably do not need to do a.r/s without news, at a critical juncture like now.

I have argued the math with longs until I a blue in the face in different companies, and people do "get it" mathematically, eventually. Many do not. But the animal spirits (emotions) kick in, and they jump. Shorts are shorts and will be here anyway, but given the increase in institutional purchases, typically it can bring greater investment, yet still decline slowly. It is frustrating to see the innumerate animal spirits define the space, but it's just the reality.

I hear you that it increases shorting and that that helps, but it is not necessarily the cause and it can be undone by the right catalysts.
