Out of curiosity, does anyone here in the medical community know how cases of Covid-19 are counted. I've indicated here that I and my wife have tested positive on home tests, we've let our Dr. know, but not gone anywhere to be examined. Neither of us have had a fever, it's been like having a cold, and not yet been a particularly bad one. I just wonder if reporting it to a Dr. causes us to be counted, or only if we go into some medical facility for treatment.

If it takes a trip to a medical facility to be counted, I suspect the number of people who've actually been infected over time is substantially higher than what have been reported. I would suspect that many getting a positive in a take home kit don't even mention it to their Dr. if they're not feeling that sick. I've yet to actually speak to a Dr. about it, as I'm just not that sick.

I suppose that if what I'm suggesting is true, it also suggests that if some immunity is achieved from having one of the Covid-19 variants, perhaps we're closer to herd immunity than we think.
