Lightwave Logic Announces Publication of Materials Chemistry Patent Application to Significantly Improve Polymer Performance

1. Continuing improvements to R33 parameter

R33 is a measure of the modulating efficiency of the Perkinamine polymer material. The higher the R33, the better the modulator is at switching light on and off. That is, higher frequency of operation, lower loss and lower Vpi.

2. Continuing improvement to thermal stability

Lightwave is showing the industry that concerns about the thermal stability of polymers are a thing of the past. LWLG polymers are exceptionally stable and meet or exceed the stability of traditional materials in this regard.

3. Enhances the ability to incorporate process into foundry PDKs

The NR emphasizes that the recent improvements enhance the ability to incorporate LWLG's polymers into foundries' processes.

"The elegance of this materials chemistry design is perfect for integrated photonics that can be fabricated in large silicon foundries."

"Is perfect for" is an exceptionally bold statement. The superlative wording of this statement should not be underestimated.

4. Ongoing IP protection

I really appreciate the lengths that Dr. Lebby and team are going to with respect to expanding the moat around LWLG's patent protection. This application (if granted) significantly reinforces the strength of the IP. We can fairly confidently assume that this patent will be granted as it references IP already assigned to LWLG. This fact greatly enhances the likelihood of the application being granted.

5. Restarts clock on IP

This application if/when granted will effectively restart the clock on the IP protection, i.e., another 20 years.

It may take a while for the market to truly appreciate the value of the strength of the patent portfolio that LWLG continues to assemble. This patent application is groundbreaking, IMO and kudos should be given to Dr. Lebby and the technical team in their ongoing efforts to carve out a monopoly in the use of polymers in the rapidly expanding market for high-speed data.
