Alternatively a day’s trading could be marked 100% short and not a single share of short interest created.

That makes it impossible to correlate in the OTC.

I might agree with you on Exchange traded stocks where broker/dealers keep inventory…but they don’t in the OTC and rely heavily on using riskless principle to affect trades and that throws any ability to correlate with short interest creation out the window.
