I retired from Intel Corp. in 1998. My last job was managing the secure co-processor program in the Secure Platform Group.

Fast forward to 2009. The Trusting Computing Group, an industry consortium, released the open spec for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). It is a cryptographic chip that offers hardware-based security functions that other companies can use with their security software (this is a very simplistic description). PC's still ship with TPMs. Intel was heavily involved.

Then came Wave Systems with their own solution that used the TPM. It was crap.

But the Mullets didn't believe me.
