Wow it looks like Intel finally realized that they do not posess the ability, talent and lost their vision to keep up. It sure reeks of desperation. Back in the day Lightwave Logics management tried the university route but it was a frustrating one. The universities do not work on a strict schedule, while yes new fresh minds are good many are not disciplined. I can still see Joe Miller standing there with his arms crossed, you've got results comming in months old this is frustrating we need to keep this all in-house and develop a feedback loop so the one team can walk down the hall and meet with the other, get their results make the needed changes and move forward.

Hopefully Intel will be able to pull it off and get back on their feet but IMO farming out 1/2 dozen projects all to different universities and coordinating implementation will be like hearding cats.
