We’ll be taxed for Aduhelm

Medicare Part B, which covers services like doctors office visits, will increase by $21.60, from $148.50 in 2021 to $170.10 in 2022. Officials said that is one of the largest increases in recent years.

About half of that increase is due to contingency planning to make sure the program has enough money to pay for Aduhelm if Medicare decides to cover it.

Well, looks like I’ll have to “pay” $21.60 more each month for my Medicare. That’s $259.20 for the year; all so that Medicare can provide extortionately expensive Aduhelm therapy for Alzheimer’s cases.

Biogen is going charge $56,000 for a year’s therapy with Aduhelm. Of course, there is minimal evidence that the drug is actually both safe and effective. But, it does target beta-amyloid accumulations, so that’s enough.

As a Medicare enrollee I’ll be taxed $259.20 next year to enable Aduhelm to cause brain hemorrhaging in Alzheimer’s patients, while the lethal course of their disease continues minimally abated by the new drug. A great medical success. The FDA should be so proud.
