I used that same technique while managing a finance company in the 80's. A birdbrain State Auditor (name withheld for obvious reasons) would come in... I would make a minimal intentional insurance rebate "error"... he would find it and intruct me to sent the pittance to the customer with an apology letter. He was a hero.. He spent the next 3 days at a desk in a secluded area of my office.. reading the Playboy magazines that I carelessly left in the top drawer.
