Check out these links, but basically effect size amplifies and in many ways supersedes the importance of statistical significance. With a good P-value and a high effect size, you are saying that the results were not only irrefutable, but also largely clinically beneficial. Alternatively, one could have irrefutable results with a low effect size, indicating that while the drug does work, it does not have a particularly meaningful result. I hope this helped a little.
