Hello, The company they bought Spectrum Semiconductor is a distributor (not a manufacturer) that sells to a market that are not AmpliTech customers. So the customer list is not helpful. The product Spectrum distributes are ceramic packages from Japan manufactures like Kyocera and NTK. These are very good products but lagging edge technology that has been available for 20-30 years. There are new packaging technologies now available that are leading edge that are lower cost and better performance. The Spectrum products are still good but not leading edge. This may be a profitable company but not complimentary.

As for niche markets. You are correct they can find their way into some of them. But the way they do it is very disappointing. I think they find a market and say we can make it. So they tell the world AMPG has the product and gets orders. Then they try to figure out how to make it. This never works.

As an example they went to the APS show 4 years ago and advertised cryogenic LNA's they could not make. They advertised the best performance in the world. The posts were all over this message board about AMPG's best products in the industry. Then East Coast Microwave posted the data sheets. Now ECM took them down and terminated the AMPG relationship. ECM was AMPG's distributor. The posts went quiet. I think everyone knew the products must not be real. They probably received large orders they could not deliver on. My best guess is this really hurt them.

But they continue on to the next story.
