kinda-sorta-notreally. As Myth noted, they're not traded on a public exchange (OTC, Nasdaq, etc.) - that is the threshold for being 'public' generally. However, they may be in the intermediate stage of attracting outside investors while still 'private' as opposed to having only insider investors - the hallmark of a closely held corporation.

Thus, it's a bit of a misnomer to say they're a PubCo, but they may be claiming so to distinguish from the stigma of a 'run out of our garage' closely held corp.

again, all speculation (it may have been a fumblefinger, or an incorrect assumption when filling out the linkedin page that all corporations issuing stock are public).
