I think it is also related to big pharma needing to get their claws into whatever the new discovery is in order to profit from it before they allow it to succeed by blocking its acceptance thru lobbying congress, exercising influence insurance providers, having research lackeys like Nissen cast doubt within the medical community and tie stuff up in litigation until they have a strong position to financially benefit from it when they get out of the way and let it thrive.
