Ukie - great list - a couple more - back then I was living in New England and still going to college. Patriots had never been in a Super Bowl before, let alone won one - Bears really kicked our behinds. Mike Dukakis was governor of Massachusetts, but of course he is best remembered for wearing a too-big army helmet. The Celtics had Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish and went on to win the NBA championship. The Red Sox had Roger Clemens and Tom Seaver, and Jim Rice, Wade Boggs and Dwight Eveans, and a guy named "Oil Can", but went on to lose the Bill Buckner World Series.
