reduction in process complexity when creating new transgenics and should result in significantly higher yields

Significantly higher yields means being able to supply more metric tons of silk without pumping as much money, that’s a great thing for supplying many industries

this new system should allow the Company to achieve homozygous, germline stable, new transgenics in a fraction of the time

For those not familiar, this means that the dna chromosomes the worms have are the same, as opposed to be heterozygous which means they have dna chromosomes that are different. With heterozygous chromosomes there is a chance that the unwanted chromosomes are active and the wanted chromosomes become inactive, but with both chromosomes being the same there is a 80% chance that the future lines of worms will always carry the genes the scientists want it too.

That’s actually a big deal, dog breeders (and other type of breeders) would kill to have homozygous genes in their breeds for unique genes (think chocolate labs, yellow labs... or even cats with specific patterns that they could replicate almost every single time thanks to homozygous genes)

This means they would rarely have to test future generations of worms coming from these lines, which means less money spent on quality insurance and so forth.

This will save a lot of money and is a larger guarantee that their future sales of these worms will go through less stringent testing to ensure the genes they need.

Seems to be a lot of people who haven’t taken a science class weighing in on what’s going on with this company’s achievements, sad really
