The real point of the story is one that seems to be missed:
"The company, which tailors content to users based on their past browsing and viewing habits."
What we've got (and this is by no means limited to Facebook) is AI 'bots' feeding us information which tends to re-enforce (mis?)-information that we may have already been fed by various internet sources.
The problem lies with those who can't (or won't) think for themselves being encouraged in their own cognitive biases.
