Fascinating! This aligns with the quantum theory of consciousness posited by Penrose and Hameroff. Pyramidal cells have microtubules that appear to serve as "receivers" of consciousness at a quantum level. General anesthetics block activity in the microtubules and conscious essentially disappears or is turned off, so to speak. Apparently psilocybin does just the opposite, i.e. expanding consciousness in a literal sense.
