now that it is common knowledge ibuprofen and acetaminophen are awesome for acute pain there is no excuse for a doctor declaring "Generic opioids are the mainstay of acute pain control in modern medicine." in 2021. It reflects a lack of understanding of the risk of opioids and a failure to keep up to date with current recommended practices.

Thanks for the medical advice from Dr. Google. LOL. Notice the date on the studies cited? Most were pre-2010. Hard to believe that with all this 10+ year-old "current" data that Percocet and Norco are still in the billion dollar range for annual sales. What does that tell you? It tells you that in the real world in 2021, opioids remain a mainstay of acute pain management. It tells you that NSAIDS are helpful to reduce opioid usage, but they are not a replacement. It tells you that NSAIDS are helpful for certain types of pain, like the dental pain and extremity sprains cited in your studies, but they not sufficient for all kinds of acute pain. It tells you that NSAIDS are even more toxic than opioids in a lot of ways, and they are not appropriate for many patients. NSAIDS can cause heart attacks and strokes, especially in older patients and anyone with pre-existing cardiac disease. NSAIDS cause CHF exacerbations. NSAIDS inhibit platelet function and are especially risky in post-op patients and anyone taking blood thinners. NSAIDS cause esophagitis and (hemorrhagic) peptic and duodenal ulcers. NSAIDS cause kidney failure. NSAIDS delay bone healing. I sincerely hope that anyone who is dealing with acute, severe pain for any reason has a medical practitioner with better management skills than those found in 10+ year-old links from the Minnesota Dental Association. Good luck with that, and I really mean it.

With all of this data from the 2000's showing the uselessness of opioids, it really makes one wonder why Hakim would commit all of our time and money to developing them.
