I think competitors will emerge but a good question is whether they can compete in the right area at the right time. Wave is in a very good spot in terms of directing engineering and spec development. If some company, 6 months from now, tries to create a simple password maanger or some other peice of software, they may find that the whole environment has moved on to something morw complex and integrated and their thing just isn't functional enough anymore. I can't believe they can maiantain a monopoly in a static place but in a dynamic environemnt where wave is influencing direction and working with the key players is a very powerful position to mainntain ones edge and competitive adantage. At least so it seems if they have the resources to do it.
