Certainly can happen. I once lost what is to me a ton of dollars in one that simply went totally silent. We knew they already had bought acres of land to build on, did build from the proceeds from the sale of stock what appears today on google earth to be a flourishing motel close to the airport, bought acres of land, huge future plans, and then silence, suspension and delisting.
A big difference there was/is that they(?) were operating from a USA virtual office/mail drop and the lands/improvements are in a foreign country. We didn't have the availability of the USA court system to seek restitution from human bodies and assets that we could identify as being in/residing in the USA.
Sadly, here, even with a favorable court decision, it may simply result in the company and mgmt filing for bankruptcy and if there are tangible assets the ultimate main champs could be the legal team that we, and maybe even they, would hire. We, a few pennies on a dollar.
