Yes, the mainstream media is clearly untrustworthy, as are most government related institutions, private corporations, NGO related entities, etc.



What about media that is not "mainstream"? There is no shortage of fringe media sources such as blogs, Facebook posts and Youtube videos that rail against the trustworthiness of mainstream media and gov't institutions. These fringe media rants resonate and create an air of credibility but unfortunately many fall into the trap of also trusting some fringe media's crazy alternate views of reality because of this shared mistrust and don't fact check or seek information which may discredit it as false.

I think it's important to be aware of how our personal biases can lead us down the wrong path. Confirmation bias is the one I notice most people are oblivious to. Confirmation bias is only seeking information that validates one's beliefs and avoiding or ignoring information which contradicts our beliefs.
