This always cracked me up when you start/adjust your 401k/IRA where they have that slider where you punch in your risk tolerance. Then with the highest risk setting, you're supposed to get the highest return. If you look through the mutual funds with the highest risks that are suggested, they're almost always the worst performing funds with the highest fees.

The bigger the risk, the bigger reward doesn't work in mutual fund land.

Penny stocks on the other hand.... You may luck out and actually reap the benefits of taking on that bigger risks.
