Judge Du had full access to the findings of the PTO and ruled as she did. Obviously any testimony given in person would be a reading of those findings. The court system has complete power over the findings of the patent office and unfortunately less versed individuals (judges) are empowered to rule as they see fit even if an issue may be above their scientific or technical competence. In theory, wrong determinations can be addressed by the appeals process. We see how well that worked.
