This is all conjecture on my part, but knowing that Granowitz was a Merck guy with a reputation for being unpleasant to work with, he may have had a relationship with KM that was less than positive. So, when KM was promoted, he knew his days were numbered and moved quickly to find a new job. Lexicon is not a move up in my opinion.
