Because the shares cannot be directed transferred to the individual brokerage account. The only way to access them is to sell and transfer the cash somewhere. A certificate could be requested but the sale would still need to go through the brokerage firm and TA before it finalized.

That’s not all cases…but it is in this one. There’s simply no reason to do anything with them until a sale is requested
