Lesson not learned.

If you had bought just one share of Microsoft at the IPO, you would now have 288 shares after all the splits. Those shares would be worth $44,505 at the current stock quote of $154.53.

When I was teaching advanced placement biology (in the last century) I had a number students getting heavy into “computers.” One of them told me about the Microsoft IPO (initial public offering). The kid said that after a few years my purchase of shares in this up and coming company would be “really valuable.”

I passed. What does some 17-year old high school kid know about stock investing, especially in some young company few had ever heard of?

I also passed on buying AVXL shares when they were cheap. Waited until I had abundant evidence of the company’s science. My AVXL cost basis is a bit over two bucks. As more zeros before the decimal sign get added to the AVXL share price, I’ll do fine, this time.
