I'm no expert, and I really don't know what besides the graphene is in the battery, but I believe the lithium is part of the problem in the current battery, I don't believe the carbon is. If I'm right, it would be less of a problem, but a charged battery that suddenly is discharged in an accident could certainly cause a fire whether it's the battery that's burning or not.

I've also believed in fuel celled vehicles, I'd suspect that once again graphene might be used in building better fuel cells. In that the graphene battery can be recharged so quickly, it probably would eliminate the advantage of fuel cells in getting a rapid fill of hydrogen. I would suspect that not having hydrogen around might prove safer regardless, as much as I like it as a fuel, it certainly can be dangerous.
