I spent a couple decades working in commercial radio.
WKRP was funny, yes, but so much of it was so very close to the way things actually were. "Herb" was our sales manager. "Mr Carlson" was our station manager who got the job by default, and had little clue. Our office manager thought spandex was proper station attire but wore it oh so well. And yes, we had a "Dr Johnny Fever"...our Doctor in the Nighttime with his "low rent, egg sucking, rock and roll" predated WKRP.
