They had the available inventory of shares to keep selling into the demand over the past few weeks. However, they would have been establishing their own net short position during that period.

Why would they have wanted to do that? MMs both buy and sell. That is their job. And just about all of them do not want to hang on to any of that stock. They like to close the day flat.

There is a high probability that a controlling market maker nose dived the price yesterday in order to cover that short position at a profit.

No there isn't. Why make this more complicated than it is? People bought over the past few months because SSM filed a custodianship petition to take control of the shell. Yesterday it became known that SSM had agreed to walk away.

And so people who'd bet on their taking over sold.
