I believe the origins of these conspiracy theories against Tesla are coming from this conference.

As you can these people are engaging in the same kind of rhetoric, that doesn't require common sense, science, logic or rational thinking that requires any form of empirical evidence.

Tesla Announced The BIGGEST Autopilot Update!

Tesla is currently using radars in its autopilot system to make sure that features like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist function properly. However, to improve the efficiency of its autopilot, Tesla is now planning to use cameras rather than radars. There are various ways in which radars can be used, for example distance measurement to enable the system to take any actions required like stopping the vehicle or activating the alarm in order to indicate that the vehicle crossed the lane. Tesla, a company in constant search for novel applications of advanced technologies, is now planning to replace the radars with cameras that will be able to perform all these functions much better. The camera-based system will be called Tesla vision and it is expected to be introduced into Tesla Model 3 Sedan and Model Y SUV. Those are one of the most popular vehicles and with the cameras replacing radars there, Tesla Model 3 Sedan and Model Y SUV are doomed to become even more popular and win an excellent share of the EV market.
Tesla Autopilot System has been attracting lots of attention and controversy. We all remember a number of accidents in which Tesla vehicles were involved. Some of those actually cost vehicle drivers and passengers their lives and there were numerous reports that at the time when those crashes occurred Teslas had autopilot modes activated. This is hardly the publicity that Tesla had been wishing for. Consequently, it is to make its self-driving system more reliable that Tesla is introducing its Tesla Vision radar replacement, a system capable of reducing the response time to milliseconds, thus enabling the vehicle to behave appropriately in any situation. Mr. Musk has always been of the opinion that Tesla vehicles should not rely on radar technology to enable the functioning of their autopilot systems. He believes that cameras are much better to use in autonomous driving systems. Cameras are supposedly capable of significantly improving the efficiency of such systems, potentially even further reducing any risks for either drivers or passengers. Thus, GM’s Super Cruise system does use a complex combination of radar and lidar-generated and mapped data, alongside with cameras. A vehicle with the Super Cruise system, therefore, does not need the driver to actually move. The radar-lidar-camera combinations are found in majority of vehicles with self-driving features. Such a combination is usually referred to as “sensor fusion”. Tesla, however, instead of using all these numerous sensors in its autopilot system, is planning to focus on exclusive application of cameras only. All the radars in Tesla vehicles are going to be replaced in order to increase the systems’ efficiency and effectiveness. Tesla Model 3 Sedan and Tesla Model Y SUV will eventually be coming equipped with cameras only, something that has been promised by Mr. Musk himself. The promise in question was made by Tesla CEO on March 12, when he posted a tweet indicating that Tesla had been looking forward to using cameras in its AI technologies from then on. He claimed that Tesla Vision is the future of Tesla vehicles, especially of Tesla Model 3 Sedan and Model Y SUV. In a recent tweet, Mr. Musk also stated that depending on the eventual approval of the new camera-based system, there might be some delays in Tesla vehicle production and deliveries. One of the most important indicators of the fact that the system is still in its development stages is the usage of the word “beta” in the designation of the Full Self Driving Tesla Package. Elon Musk emphasized that at the moment there are only approximately 2,000 Tesla owners having access to the system in question. While the FSD Beta does enable the drivers to enjoy a more than standard freedom when driving their Teslas, it does not preclude their having to pay attention to the road when riding comfortably in their vehicles. Indeed, while there has been significant and rapid progress in Tesla FSD development, it is still not effective enough to do without any control from the vehicle’s driver. Your Tesla, even when running in the autopilot mode, still requires your constant supervision. The upgraded camera-only Tesla autopilot system will also require significant neural network processing capacity. Tesla has mentioned that there is going to be a suite of 8 cameras installed in such a way as to make it possible for 360-degree vehicle vicinity monitoring. They will also be capable of proving the visibility of up to 250 meters in any direction.
